Sun, sea and paddle board – great combination for the perfect day out! With the Auckland CBD and Harbour Bridge in the background, Little Shoal Bay was the best place to try this exciting activity. We didn’t really plan paddle boarding, but one kind man who was on this beach with his family, came to us and offered us his equipment, so we give it a go. And, of course, we loved it! Now I have one more thing on my list – I want my own paddle board! 🙂

Lantern Festival: Illuminated art in Auckland

IMG_4162

One of the most popular summer festivals here in Auckland is Lantern festival organized to celebrate Chinese New Year. This year it took place in Auckland Domain which was illuminated with more than 800 homemade lanterns. Everything was about Chinese art and Asian food, of course. The park looked magical with all those lights but it was so crowded, I didn’t really expect  so many people there, we could barely move around.

However, to mark the year of the Monkey, which started on the February 8, I managed to capture a few of the imaginative lanterns from this year’s festival… Enjoy!

Before dark at Lake Taupo

Lake Taupo

When you find yourself at the spot like this one it is very easy to see how the time really can fly by fast. Getting to Lake Taupo just a few minutes before dark gave us the privilege to enjoy in this beautiful colors of the water and the sky. Sun went down quickly but we got it in the right moment and I just had to show you how amazing it was…

Colors of Duder Regional Park

IMG_3785

We found the perfect destination for a day trip just half an hour from Auckland. Duder Regional Park in Clevedon is one more beautiful example of New Zealand stunning nature. Spending the day outdoors, just walking up and down the hills, was what we were looking for. It is great how fast here you can find a place that will make you happy. That’s one more reason why I really love this country!

The weather was perfect for wandering around. It wasn’t sunny all the time and we were happy because of that, and you know why? The sun in New Zealand is not friendly at all. You can’t stay outside for a longer time during the sunny day. After ten minutes without the shade the skin start to hurt because of the heat. It took us some time to get used to that and now I’m taking the sun block cream and my hat whenever I leave the house.

This park is open to the public from 1995 when Duder family sold the land to the Auckland Council. Now you can choose between three easy walking tracks – blue, yellow or red. For the longest one you need around two hours.

Sheep are enjoying the grasslands all over the park and they really fit perfectly into the picture…

Colors are really beautiful! Look at that blue sea and green pastures! You just have to love the nature here. I adore it!

Duder Regional Park definitely fulfilled our expectations. New Zealand convinced us one more time that it doesn’t matter where we will go because there’s no way that we can go wrong!

Follow me around Waiheke!

IMG_3556

It took me just 40 minutes from Auckland downtown to get to this wonderful green island in Hauraki Gulf. Perfect idea for a short getaway! Here I have found everything I needed – fresh air, clear blue sea and the nature which is hard to describe in a few words.

This island you can explore by walking over the several trails. That was my way because I didn’t want to miss anything while I’m here. I was ready to walk for hours and it is easy to wander around the places like Waiheke, great scenery is just pushing you to go further! Lot of people come here to walk so called Te Ara Hura Trail – 100 km of walking path which lead them all over the coastline, through the native bushes and across sandy beaches.

My first stop was Oneroa, island’s main village just 20 minutes from the port. I just sat for a while on the Little Oneroa Beach and the sound of the ukulele played by this guy in front of me just perfectly completed the picture…

Then I got here. Wandering around the Promenade led me to this small, peaceful beach called Surfdale. I can easily imagine it as my little secret place!

Wiheke is famous for its vineyards. I saw those places on the photos and I was really excited about finally getting there! You can take a vine tour and taste the product of this wonderful green fields…

Beaches here really look like those from the brochures which are inviting you to go and visit the dream destinations. After a walk through the bush I arrived to the sandy Palm Beach. It is one of those places!

After almost eight hours walking I had to go back to the port to catch the ferry. All I need to do now is plan my next trip to this island because Waiheke is definitely worth visiting more than once…
